Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2017 invited audiences to engage like never before

Matilda the Musical continues to thrill on the Festival Theatre stage until 16 Jul. The smash hit musical is the theatre’s last occupant before it closes for five months for foyer and exterior redevelopment. Throughout this period, all other Adelaide Festival Centre venues including the Dunstan Playhouse, Space Theatre, and Her Majesty’s Theatre will remain open and busy with outstanding programming. The show goes on at Adelaide Festival Centre!

Something on Saturday is back for another fun filled year! 23 Apr – 26 Aug 2017

Adelaide Festival Centre’s Something on Saturday celebrates 40 years in 2017. Entertaining families of all shapes and sizes, the annual programme runs through Adelaide’s winter months with performances and activities every Saturday. Highlights to come include The Boat with young circus stars from Cirkidz, Australian Classical Youth Ballet’s The Night Before Christmas, and Africa’s WALA The Spirit of Ghana. The programme concludes on 26 Aug with Windmill Theatre’s Beep, featuring gentle storytelling, music and puppetry.

Adelaide Festival Centre’s inSPACE Program is a cutting-edge initiative that supports some of Australia’s most talented independent artists including two world premieres this winter. Emily Steel’s funny, heartfelt, irreverent one woman show Rabbits runs from 21 Sep to 14 Oct. Adelaide’s Gabrielle Nankivell’s Split Second Heroes is also presented as part of inSPACE Program. Through physical and theatrical contemporary dance, this age-old quest for self-discovery premieres from 27 to 29 Jul.

In August, Gabrielle Nankivell returns with Sydney Dance Company for a gripping double bill featuring Rafael Bonachela’s award winning Frame of Mind and Nankivell’s smash hit Wildebeest. Frame of Mind is a dramatic evening of high-octane dance, in Adelaide from 15 to 19 Aug.

Settle in for an intimate music experience at cocktail time with Cocktail Concerts

In a special collaboration, Enoch Arden brings together Tennyson’s epic poem with the music of Strauss. It’s a story of love, loss and sacrifice told beautifully by John Bell AO OBE and pianist Simon Tedeschi. Experience the magic of this tragic yet uplifting story on 15 Jul. Classical music fans will also enjoy this year’s Cocktail Concerts. Settle in for an intimate experience with music from Zoltán Kodály in Young Barbarians on 13 Jul and Beethoven in Kreutzer & Tolstoy on 17 Aug.  In September, master jazz musician and entertainer James Morrison is back with James Morrison Jazz Academy Orchestra on 8 Sep.

Adelaide Festival Centre’s OzAsia Festival returns from 21 Sep to 8 Oct. The festival is Australia’s leading contemporary arts festival focusing on Asia and integral to Adelaide Festival Centre’s focus building cultural connections and engaging international and local communities. This year, OzAsia Festival will present Australia’s largest programme of art from Singapore and outstanding contemporary theatre, music, dance and visual arts from across Asia.
