International Arts Carnival 2017

The International Arts Carnival 2017 (IAC), organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, presents a fascinating line-up of overseas and local performances, coupled with a series of participative activities for all ages.

Opening programme Pizzazz! features an astounding celebration of aesthetic ingenuity by the award-winning China National Acrobatic Troupe, the Mainland’s only national-level group of its kind. Founded in 1950 and renowned for merging contemporary creativity with traditional arts, the Troupe launches this year’s IAC with a major showcase of spectacular feats that have seen its performers garner prestigious awards, while dance, music, theatrics and wushu are all brilliantly added to the creative mix – dynamic diabolo routines, mind-blowing balancing acts, aerial silk rope stunts, elegant umbrella juggling and much, much more. The acrobats’ superb precision, prodigious energy and thrilling top-tier exploits will keep you on the edge of your seat at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre from 6 to 9 Jul.

Fish and Game (UK) specialises in charmingly inventive shows for younger audiences. In this latest theatre production The Polar Bears Go Up, the two bears must try every way they can to get their star-shaped balloon back – they bounce on a trampoline, climb a tree, fly a plane and even have to build their own rocket and head for the stars…. Touring internationally for the first time this year, the two characters team up with a lively soundtrack, perform humorous dance routines and make innovative use of props.

Other appealing programmes, produced by arts groups from Lithuania, Australia, the Netherlands, the UK, USA, Spain, Ukraine and Hong Kong, include shadow puppet and physical theatre, interactive concert and dance theatre for babies, film and magic theatre…, etc. In addition to various extension activities such as workshops, exhibition and outreach programmes, this year’s festival guarantees you a vibrant summer!
